Good song although not a great one. Lies nicely for baritone with just a few high notes. Somber elegy for assassinated U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Could also be regarded as an elegy for a murdered friend. Promoted and performed well by Thomas Hampson on the EMI CD "To The Soul."
