There is something for every singer in this volume of ten songs composed over twenty years. Divine Images can function as a song cycle or an unordered collection. Young singers will enjoy "The Lamb" and "Infant Joy" (the latter included in Clifton Ware's Adventures in Singing). The adult student will ponder the humanism of "The Divine Image." A diva can toss off "Laughing Song," while an introspective singer may find a challenge in the "Little Boy…" songs. There's material for recital, church, study and just plain fun. Blake's poems have been set by many composers, and not just because they are accessible: the apparently simple verse prompts each composer to discover an individual musical language that articulates the polarities of innocence and experience.
